The Canada Post strike, involving more than 55,000 workers, lasted 25 days.

In a statement Sunday, Canada Post said it is awaiting a formal response from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers on the proposal it submitted to the union on Friday.

In a statement Friday, the union said it was reviewing what Canada Post put forward and wondered when the mediation process will officially resume.

The union says it is prepared to return to the negotiating table.

The strike began on November 14 and federal mediation was suspended almost two weeks ago because the sides were too far apart.

Calls for government intervention from the business community are growing, but so far the government has said it will not intervene.

The federal government has recently intervened in other high-profile labor disputes, including the ports, by using a controversial section of law to push the Labor Council to order binding arbitration.
